Spider Kinesio Taping

Spider Kinesio Taping

What is Spider Kinesio Taping?

Spider kinesio taping is a technique based on the body’s own natural healing process. This kinesio taping exhibits its efficacy through the activation of neurological and circulatory systems. This method basically stems from the science of Kinesiology, hence the name “Kinesio”. Muscles are not only attributed to the movements of the body but also control the circulation of venous and lymph flows, body temperature, etc. Therefore, the failure of the muscles to function properly induces various kinds of symptoms.

Consequently, so much attention was given to the importance of muscle function that the idea of treating the muscles in order to activate the body’s own healing process came about. Using an elastic tape, it was discovered that muscles and other tissues could be helped by outside assistance. Dr. Browner and Dr. Behar have found that using kinesio taping creates a totally new approach to treating nerves, muscles, and organs.

Kinesio taping is accepted by medical practitioners and athletes in Japan, United States, Europe, South America and other Asian countries. Many Olympic athletes use kinesio taping to reduce pain and enhance performance.

What Are The Benefits of Spider Kinesio Taping?

As Weston chiropractors who treat both serious athletes and those involved in normal recreational activities, we have found kinesio taping to have the following benefits:

  • Pain and inflammation reduction.
  • Prevention of injuries through re-establishing joint stability, enhancing the necessary healing mechanisms and through smooth controlled limitation of potentially harmful ranges of motion.
  • Performance enhancement indirectly through decreased repetitive strain trauma, decreased onset of muscular fatigue and the reduced occurrence of muscle cramping.
  • Relieves both acute and chronic pain.
  • Improves circulation to injured areas.
  • Enhances lymphatic flow, which removes fluids contributing to swelling and pain.
  • Accelerates recovery after intense exercise.
  • Prevents and/or relieves muscle cramps and spasms.
  • Provides support without restricting range of motion.
  • Prevents over-stretching or over-contraction of injured muscles.
  • Enhances strength and muscle tone in weak, injured or poorly-toned muscles.
  • Reduces fatigue and stiffness in overused muscles.

Why Is Kinesio Tape Superior To Conventional Athletic Tape?

Conventional athletic tape is designed to restrict the movement of affected muscles and joints. For this purpose, several layers of tape must be rolled around and/or over the afflicted area, applying significant pressure, resulting in the obstruction of the flow of bodily fluids, an undesirable side-effect. This is also the reason athletic tape is generally applied immediately before the sports activity, and removed immediately after the activity is finished. On the other hand, kinesio taping is based on a different philosophy that aims to give free range of motion in order to allow the body’s muscular system to heal itself bio-mechanically.

In our Weston chiropractic clinic, we have found other benefits of kinesio tape versus athletic tape:

  • The lightweight and flexibility of kinesio tape makes it incredibly comfortable to wear. Each application can be worn for up to 5 days, providing ongoing therapeutic benefits 24/7 for the entire time it is worn.
  • It has the same thickness and elasticity as human skin – once it’s been applied, you don’t feel it. It’s breathable and waterproof–it can be worn during intense exercise, swimming and showering.
  • It’s designed to be worn 24/7 for 5 days or more, providing long-term therapeutic benefits that no other modality can duplicate.
  • Because all of the edges are machine-cut, it doesn’t fray and loosen as much as kinesiology taping applications that have been hand-cut from a roll of tape.
  • Kinesio tape is the only one of the three medically accepted tapes in North America to provide the unique features that are essential to the kinesio taping method.

Spider kinesio taping is just one method we use at our Weston chiropractic clinic to help alleviate our patient’s pain and keep them healthy. Based on the condition, our Windmill Health Center offers a variety of chiropractic treatment options, all designed to help our patients get their pain under control and live a happier, healthier life! Dr. Browner, Dr. Behar and Dr. Corvin apply the kinesio tape over the affected area with the muscles in a stretched position. Then the kinesio tape is applied from one end of the muscle to the other with varying amounts of stretch to the tape. The tape is applied from the muscle origin to the insertion for muscle support and facilitation. For our Weston patients seeking rehabilitation/muscular inhibition, kinesio tape is applied from muscle insertion to the origin.
